Angela Castro Art
Artist Statement
I make art to cope with the mental health challenges I developed from growing up in an emotionally toxic environment. For me, art serves as therapy, transforming the negative experiences of my childhood into something positive. I paint succulents and flowers because their organic shapes give me a feeling of tranquility.
I begin the backgrounds of my canvases with black and blue acrylic paint. Using a wide brush, I spread the paint and then drip water from the top edge of the canvas. Once it dries, I sketch my design with a white watercolor pencil. I then layer bright, bold colors to create a strong contrast. Recently, I've started adding intricate line work in the background using acrylic markers.
